PLEASE NOTE: Philmont endured a close major forest fire and it was uncertain if the St. George Trek would be feasible if it came too close to Philmont’s Trek area. Apparently, it was saved for the area forest fires,
and because of recent uncertainty, the 2019 St. George Trek
will be rescheduled for July, 2020.

Philmont 2020 St. George Trek Applications Open for Qualified Scouts!

The St. George Trek is The National Catholic Committee on Scouting’s high-adventure Catholic leadership program for older Catholic Boy Scouts and Venture Crew members at Philmont Scout Ranch. The program brings Catholic high school youth from around the country together with selected priests, religious and seminarians for eleven days of backpacking in the context of a vocation retreat.

The 2020 St. George Trek will now begin in July, 2020 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the participants meet, get to know one another, train, have fun and pray. Then it's off to Philmont Scout Ranch where they will hike the Sangre de Cristo Range of the Rocky Mountains. While hiking, they will experience a program that is designed to encourage the integration of morality, values, spirituality, faith, scripture and vocation in their lives as young Catholic men. Before returning home on a Thursday 2020, they will be asked to commit their own continued discernment as well as to bring their experiences home to their respective dioceses, so they can become effective peer leaders and role models for their fellow scouts.

Catholic Boy Scouts and Venturers are eligible to apply.  Selection will be made on the basis of demonstrated maturity, physical ability, leadership potential and an interest in the life of the Church.. The earning of Scouting's Religious Emblems, and involvement in church, school and scouting activities will be given consideration.  Candidates should be emotionally mature adolescents who will be 15 years of age, in high school, no older than 18 years old, on or before July 1, 2020, and committed to assist their Catholic Committee when they return home. NO exceptions can be made. They must have the physical health and stamina to backpack on the mountain trails of Philmont, and must meet all Philmont physical requirements [http://www.nccs-bsa.org/pdf/Height%20Weight%20Requirements.pdf] . The St. George Trek is a one-time-only experience for youth. Previous youth participants are not eligible. The decision of the screening committee is final.

Application forms and information are available at the Catholic Committee on Scouting website [ http://www.cathcomm.net/stgeotrek.htm ].  Applications may also be received via email from cathcomm@lusfiber.net
Applications must be mailed (no scanned or emailed forms can be accepted) to selection committee postmarked by August 15, 2019
